Welcome to the Tarangire National Park in Tanzania - a hidden gem among African safari destinations.

Set against a backdrop of baobab-studded landscapes, and boasting a vast array of wildlife and bird species, Tarangire offers a truly unique experience. Below is a small guide to help you make the most of your trip.

Park Highlights:

  • Diverse Wildlife: Tarangire is known for its significant elephant population. However, it is also a habitat for giraffes, wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest, and eland. Predators like lions, leopards, and cheetahs are also present. Rarely seen animals like oryx and gerenuk can be found here too.

  • Birdwatching Paradise: With over 550 bird species recorded, Tarangire is a birdwatcher's dream. Be sure to look out for the vibrant yellow-collared lovebirds and the towering ostriches.

  • Baobab Trees: The park is famous for its iconic and ancient baobab trees that dot the landscape, providing a unique sight not often seen in other parks.

Safari Options:

  • Game Drives: A game drive, either early morning or late afternoon, provides the best opportunity to spot the diverse wildlife.

  • Walking Safaris: Walking safaris are an intimate way to experience the park. Guided by a professional, you can learn about the ecology and animals on foot.

  • Night Drives: To observe nocturnal creatures such as leopards, aardvarks, and bat-eared foxes, night drives are available.

Accommodation:

Tarangire National Park has a range of accommodation options to cater to all budgets:

  • Luxury Lodges: If you're looking for a luxurious stay, consider places like The Tarangire Treetops, which offers spacious and private treehouse suites overlooking the park, or the Tarangire Sopa Lodge, known for its large private rooms and spectacular views.

  • Mid-Range Accommodations: Places like Maramboi Tented Camp offer a comfortable stay with excellent views of the park and wildlife. Sangaiwe Tented Lodge is another great mid-range choice, and this is the place Globefallas Crew stayed at, on our first visit to Tarangire National Park. Sangaiwe Tented Lodge is set on a high ridge with stunning views over Tarangire and offers comfortable tented accommodation. The food was great and the cabin/tents was really clean and better than we expected, we can really recommend this place.

  • Budget Accommodations: For budget travelers, options like Tarangire Safari Lodge offer tented camps and bungalows. Another option is the Whistling Thorn Tented Camp, which offers a cozy stay close to nature.

Travel Tips:

  • The best time to visit Tarangire for wildlife viewing is in the dry season (June - October) when animals gather around the Tarangire River.

  • Don't forget your binoculars! They are crucial for spotting distant wildlife and observing birdlife.

  • Malaria is present in Tanzania, so consult your doctor for appropriate prophylactics before travel.

  • Respect the wildlife. Maintain a safe distance and do not feed or disturb the animals.

Exploring Tarangire National Park promises a memorable adventure packed with spectacular wildlife, breath-taking landscapes, and a tranquil atmosphere.
