Gino is a simple yet delicious dessert that is said to have originated in Sweden in the 1970s. It was created by chef Gino at the legendary restaurant PA&Co in Stockholm.

The dessert quickly became popular and has since become a classic in Swedish cuisine. Gino consists of fresh fruits covered with grated white chocolate and baked in the oven until the chocolate is golden and melted.

Recipe for Gino:

Ingredients:

  • 2 bananas
  • 2 kiwifruits
  • 250 grams of strawberries
  • 100 grams of white chocolate
  • Optionally, some grated coconut
  • Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the fruits:

    • Peel the bananas and slice them thinly.
    • Peel the kiwifruits and cut them into pieces.
    • Rinse the strawberries, remove the stems, and cut them into halves or quarters depending on their size.

  2. Arrange the fruits in an ovenproof dish:

    • Spread the banana slices, kiwi pieces, and strawberries evenly in an ovenproof dish.

  3. Grate the white chocolate:

    • Coarsely grate the white chocolate and sprinkle it over the fruits. If desired, you can also sprinkle some grated coconut for extra flavor.

  4. Gratinate:

    • Preheat the oven to high heat (about 225 degrees Celsius / 435 degrees Fahrenheit) and gratinate the fruits in the middle of the oven for about 5-10 minutes, or until the white chocolate has melted and turned lightly golden.

  5. Serve:

    • Serve the Gino straight from the oven, preferably with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream on the side.

Tips:

  • You can vary the fruits according to the season and your taste. Mango, pineapple, and blueberries are also excellent options.
  • For an extra luxurious version, you can add a few pieces of dark chocolate along with the white chocolate.
