Mahébourg

Mahébourg is a historic coastal town in southeast Mauritius, named after the famous French governor Mahé de La Bourdonnais. Less touristy than the west coast resorts, it offers an authentic glimpse into traditional Mauritian life with its colorful waterfront and bustling Monday market.

The town is the gateway to the Blue Bay Marine Park, one of the island's best snorkeling spots, and the nature reserve of Île aux Aigrettes. The National History Museum tells the story of the famous naval battle between the British and French that took place in the bay.
