San Francisco's best weather comes in September and October ('Indian Summer') when the fog lifts and temperatures are warmest. Spring (April-May) is also excellent with blooming flowers and mild weather. Summer can be surprisingly foggy and cool - as Mark Twain allegedly said, 'The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.'
San Francisco has a unique cool Mediterranean climate heavily influenced by its coastal location and the cold California Current. The famous fog, nicknamed 'Karl', rolls in frequently, especially in summer. Temperatures are remarkably consistent year-round, rarely exceeding 21°C or dropping below 8°C. The city's microclimates mean weather can vary dramatically between neighborhoods.
