About Koster
The Koster Islands consist mainly of North Koster and South Koster, reached by passenger boat from Strömstad. Their car-free environment, paths and rocky shores create a slower travel experience centred on walking, cycling and the coast. Settlements are small, and the sea remains a constant part of moving around the islands. The islands lie beside Kosterhavet National Park, Sweden's first marine national park, which protects the surrounding marine environment. A visit requires more planning than an ordinary town trip: boat times, seasonal services and weather all shape the day. Bring what you need, respect protected areas and choose routes that fit the conditions. Summer offers the widest service, while other seasons are quieter.
