El Palmar is a village in the Albufera Natural Park south of Valencia city, set beside a freshwater lagoon and rice-growing landscape. Traditional boat trips offer a way to see the water and its reed-fringed edges, while the village is closely tied to rice cultivation and local rice dishes. It is a very different outing from Valencia’s urban centre. Come for the lagoon landscape rather than treating El Palmar as a beach resort: the Mediterranean shore is a separate part of the area. Boat services and access to natural spaces can change with conditions and the season, so check locally before travelling. Keep to marked paths and respect the protected wetland and its birdlife.
